ABOUT RENOVUM

Understand first.
Transform with purpose.

Renovum is a technology engineering and advisory company built to solve problems that don’t fit neatly into a single discipline. We bring independent technical judgment and hands-on capability to recover lost understanding, restore useful capability, and engineer what comes next.

THE NAME

Renewal.
Made useful again.

Renovum carries the idea of renewal and rebirth. Its Latin inspiration is renovo—to renew or restore.

For us, that means restoring capability. A system may be abandoned, worked around, or written off because nobody understands it anymore. The investment is still there. The value may be recoverable.

We recover the knowledge, investigate what failed, and determine what it would take to make the system useful again. Then we help engineer the right next state and make its knowledge transferable.

Understand what exists. Restore what’s possible. Engineer what comes next.

WHY RENOVUM EXISTS

Before replacing
something,
understand it.

Useful capability is worth understanding before it is written off.

Renovum begins by asking whether there is still something valuable to recover—in the technology, the knowledge behind it, or the way it could be used.

Can it be repaired? Repurposed? Combined with something else? Is the thing actually broken—or do we just not understand it anymore?

Before replacing a system, understand it. Before abandoning someone else's work, figure out why it was built that way.

Sometimes the right answer really is to start over. But you should know why.

That's the thinking behind Renovum.

EXPERIENCE BEHIND THE APPROACH

Built through
hands-on work.

Renovum draws on more than 20 years of engineering and technical leadership experience. These selected examples of prior professional work show the practical foundation behind the approach.

01 / RECOVER UNDERSTANDING

Inherit the system.
Reconstruct the knowledge.

Led engineers supporting deployed systems inherited from another contractor with minimal documentation. Investigated source code, logs, instrumentation and network behavior, and interviewed operators and former personnel to reconstruct how the systems worked.

Spent six weeks on-site transferring knowledge and providing immediate operational support to maintain continuity throughout the transition. The work made the system maintainable and helped restore capability more quickly when problems occurred. Trained the owner on how the system worked and built documentation so others could support it after the transition—without depending on one person to hold all the knowledge.

02 / MAKE IT SUPPORTABLE

Take prototypes
into real use.

Productized engineering prototypes through hardware hardening, component substitution, custom chassis and harness design, software improvements, assembly planning and field integration.

The work included requirements, test procedures, verification and validation, release management, documentation and training materials.

03 / CROSS THE BOUNDARIES

Connect software
to the physical system.

Delivered embedded Linux systems across multiple processor architectures, including drivers, bootloaders, root filesystems and automated test harnesses.

The work spanned software engineering and leadership of DSP and digital design teams across embedded computing, RF sensing and communications systems.

04 / ENGINEER THE ENVIRONMENT

From drawings
to working facilities.

Supported major facility expansions nationwide, including unclassified spaces and ICD-705-compliant SCIF spaces. Took a hands-on role in specifications, drawing reviews, vendor selection and construction oversight.

The scope crossed server rooms—racks, cable management, UPS and cooling—collaboration and video-conferencing spaces, copper and fiber cabling, network architecture, alarms, access control and operational technology. Infrastructure specification included servers, network switches, storage and specialized GPU compute systems for air-gapped AI workloads.

Specified and coordinated a nationwide multipoint-to-multipoint Layer 2 network connecting buildings to improve performance and resilience. Worked on-site at construction locations across the country, including hands-on implementation to help keep projects on schedule.

05 / DEVELOP THE PEOPLE

Build the organization.
Lead from the work.

Built an IT organization serving facilities nationwide. Established project management and tracking systems, identified and hired candidates across locations, and provided both people leadership and technical direction as chief architect.

Combined architecture and planning with practical support for the people delivering the work. When systems failed, stepped in to diagnose and resolve problems, including outside normal working hours.

The result was organizational capability supported by technical leadership that stayed close to the systems, the projects and the people responsible for them.

Systems perspective
Practical experience across software, hardware, infrastructure and the interfaces between them.

Engineering + Advisory
Experience investigating, designing, implementing, testing, documenting and sustaining technology.

Selected prior professional experience, presented without organization names. Renovum applies this background to understanding, restoring and sustaining complex systems.

HOW WE THINK

Independent by design.

01 / JUDGMENT

Start with the problem.

A vendor, platform or product should not determine the answer before the situation is understood. We recommend what makes technical and business sense for you.

02 / PERSPECTIVE

Cross the boundaries.

Software, embedded systems, hardware, RF, sensors, infrastructure and cybersecurity depend on each other. IT is one domain we understand; it is not the boundary of what we do. We follow the problem and identify where deeper specialist expertise is needed.

03 / VALUE

Restore what’s possible.

Old does not necessarily mean obsolete. Recover the knowledge and capability that still have value. Repair, adapt or replace based on evidence, and leave the system understandable to those who own it.

04 / OWNERSHIP

Make knowledge transferable.

Documentation, training and clear ownership are part of the work. Renovum should leave you more capable, without becoming your next single point of failure.

Your engineer
at the table.

A one-person company reviewing a proposal and an enterprise inheriting a complex program both deserve independent technical judgment.

You don't need to know which discipline owns the problem before you call.

Got a complicated
technology problem?

Good.

It doesn't have to be enormous. You don't need to diagnose it, know the solution, or decide how much help you need yet.
